HOW TO CHOOSE ART FOR YOUR OFFICE
The benefits of artwork in the workplace are well-documented. The physical and emotional effects range from increased worker satisfaction, positive client first impressions, and higher productivity. For these reasons, it is no surprise that artwork has become an important consideration for local architecture firms, interior designers and business owners. Capitalize on our experience sourcing artwork for business with the following tips.
CLEVELAND PHOTOGRAPHY IS LEADING THE WAY
Clevelanders are glowing with hometown pride! People are visiting from all over the country to see what the excitement is all about! It should be no surprise to locals reading this, Cleveland photography has become the most theme for artwork in an office setting. We recommend considering exciting, colorful images that evoke desires to visit a certain place in town or encourage discussions about everything our city has to offer. If you are considering taking your office walls in this direction, we need to talk! Through our relationships with several fine art photographers, we would love to help you source a collection of images to choose from that achieve your goals and display your hometown pride.
CONSIDER THE BENEFITS OF A LOCAL COMPANY
Local galleries have several advantages over the many online options available to you. In addition to building a working relationship, many local galleries offer site visits, ensuring your order will contain the appropriate number of pieces and correct sizes for your location. An ongoing local presence can be an indicator that a company provides high quality products and services, as they have a reputation to uphold in their local communities. They know your city better than out-of-towners, and it never hurts to have someone to call on later when you need to frame your latest Weatherhead 100 magazine cover. Finally, local galleries will be installing your artwork when the time comes. Bundling installation services with the purchase of your artwork means more accurate budgeting, product/quality guarantees, and perhaps more competitive bids than separating the two.
CHOOSE EXCITING IMAGES
"We just purchased art a couple of years ago, but..." is a common call we get from future clients. It is a story where the main characters (the art and the client) never seem to click. The problem: the art was boring. It just didn't stand the test of time. There are many stock photography sites, and even more companies willing to sell you stock photography of your city. Shots that have no soul! Choose a firm that can present you with out-of-the-ordinary images, captured by talented local photographers, to extend your investment. Perhaps its the modern look of metal or acrylic art featuring one of our Cleveland photography collections? Or, consider incorporating company-related objects like this company did.

Plain Dealer presses are running with extra Cavaliers championship editions! How will you display your front page and what do you need to know? Here are 5 tips from The Framer's Gallery, Voted #1 in Cleveland for Best Custom Framing!
1. MATS - They separate your paper from touching your glass. Without separation you could end up with condensation. Not good. They also need to be acid-free, period. Some retailers may sell you an acid mat on your art... but going cheap on this part of framing WILL leave your front page with acid stains and maybe water damage.
2. GLASS - Okay Cavs fans, this is IMPORTANT! Newspapers are fragile and the ink is "cost effective" at best. No matter where you're going to have it framed (we hope you choose us!), only choose glass with a UV-protective coating to slow down any fading. Cheap Glass = A Washed Out and Faded Front Page... and we're talking fast.

3. MATS, again! - You'll love the design options available in matting. Did you like the black uniforms with wine and gold accents? You can have that! Want a mat that looks like a basketball? Yes! How about the number of your favorite player or "CLE" cut into the mat for added effect? Perhaps you would like a photograph or pattern printed as your background? Sure! We'll create and build it exactly how you want it! Check out some of the sports memorabilia or concert posters we did featuring some pretty cool mat designs!
4. MOUNTING - You've got options! Proper conservation mounting could be a water-activated hinge tape. What?! Translation, we'll hang the paper inside using a fully-removable tape. Downside, this doesn't smooth out any wrinkles. Your other option includes a permanent dry-mount, where we use heated press to seal your paper to a foam board. You wouldn't be able to ever remove the paper from the backing board but it presents as smooth as Kyrie's fade-away! (You get the picture!)
5. FRAMES - Simple or colorful, there's a perfect frame for every style! Check out a few of the choices our customers have selected to frame their Plain Dealer below! Expect to budget around $200 and up to $400 if you get really fancy.
WE KNOW YOU HAVE CHOICES, THANKS FOR KEEPING IT LOCAL!
Did you know? For every $1 spent at a locally owned business, .48 stays in the community, while less than .14 spent at a big box stays in the community! Ouch!
We also frame art, photographs, shadow boxes, family heirlooms, wedding invitations, concert posters, sports memorabilia and much more!

At The Framer's Gallery, we have a great deal to celebrate as well! We're continuing to see corporate requests for new artwork that celebrates Cleveland's local artists and historic landmarks, certainly a product of this hometown pride and energy! Artwork and installation services to Cleveland's corporate market remained a major part of our business in 2015.
In this 31st year of business, 2015 was a year of many firsts for us! We were Voted #1 in Cleveland for Best Custom Framing! That was a huge first! Thank you to everyone who voted for your support! Attention first-time picture framers! Here's some tips to help you choose the best framing for your first project!
SHOULD I FRAME IT?
People often wrestle with whether or not an item has enough value to justify investing in custom framing. Consider this... custom picture framing is a luxury, a way to get an elite design to display important items. Our experience leads me to answer this way: If the emotional value led you to store it safely over time, or it has enough meaning to garner any of many possible feelings when you view it... It might be a candidate for framing. Let's dig into the decisions and experience you can expect when you decide to have an item framed by a professional.
People often refer to "The Fine Art of Framing," a reference to the drastic improvement that well-designed custom framing can enhance and accent the aspects within a work of art. Professional custom framers make a living helping you achieve your desired aesthetic result and ensuring your artwork is not damaged during the process.
Rule #1: Take it to a professional framer with a reputation of excellence!
This is by far the most important aesthetic decision you will make throughout the process! If you entrust a random customer service representative for design advice, the odds of receiving a finished product that you'll love for years to come just plummeted to almost nothing! Working with a professional framer ensures that your item will be beautiful and not end up damaged by materials or during the framing process. Quick plug: The Framer's Gallery has been in business over 30 years and all framing is completed on-site! Never take important items somewhere that may ship it to another location for framing. Here are a few other tips for you to consider prior to your first custom framing experience.
SELECTING YOUR MATS.
Neutral colors and fine fabrics work well when choosing your top mat. Always compliment the dominant or background color of your artwork. Mat boards are available in suede, linen, leather and a variety of other specialty finishes that can enhance the artwork. A well-chosen companion fillet or additional mat can play with your artwork and create a visual zen that'll have you smirking... Ohhhh yeah! So have fun in this part of the process! Try a few combinations! You're not alone... we'll help! We can also print background images on your mat or cut unique shapes, patterns or edges! Check our Hall of Frame for some examples. By the way, if someone recommends mats that aren't 100% acid-free, grab your art and run for the door! Acid mats stain your artwork over time... yuck!... and are still frequently sold online to tempt you with low prices.
CHOOSING A FRAME.
Try and wrap your head around this one, there really are no rules when choosing a frame! Now, I know what you're thinking, "But I came here for a little advice!" Okay, mull over this. Consider frames that complement the style of your artwork and do not distract your eyes away from it. When framing a floral painting, search for something delicate. If it's a poster from a rock and roll concert, get a little dangerous! If your art is busy, keep the frame simple. Want it to look like it just came out of a turn-of-the-century barn? You've got it! Also, be open to viewing a variety of frames with your artwork. If you began down a path of "cheap black frames" from the local big box, that doesn't mean you should stay the course! In fact, question the direction you've been steering your design life! Your frames should meet the quality level, or future direction of your home interiors. If your furniture is IKEA, keep the framing simple. If you have started a furniture collection intended to last many years, you're ready to do the same with your artwork. Embark on the experience of optical karma that different frame finishes can offer your walls! Interested in seeing your frame before you buy it? Click here to try the LJ virtual framing tool.
Rule #2: Art doesn't have to match the couch!
When you choose framing materials that are at peace with your piece, it will look great and you'll love it (wherever it hangs in the end)! Keep in mind, your frame should match the quality level of your furniture.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The big question! The price of framing depends on many factors, including the size of your artwork, type of wood the moulding is made from, intricate finishes on the moulding and even your location. Your chosen framer should have a large variety to choose from. Expect to budget between $20-30/per foot plus mats, mounting and glass. By the way, our Wall Warriors receive incredible benefits for their loyalty.
Light causes fading over time... not only sunshine, some indoor lighting as well. Fine framers today only offer glazing that provides UV protection. That's the standard, period. Unfortunately, glass without UV protection is still out there and can have you noticing fading as soon as just a couple of years. Museum glass is the industry-leading glazing material. Nearly invisible, it provides a crystal clear view of your artwork, almost no reflection, and protects against 99% of harmful indoor and outdoor light rays. Museum glass keeps your framed pieces clearer and brighter for longer, and you won't be looking back at yourself each time you stop to enjoy your art! That's what mirrors are for! Avoid glass completely and have us print your photo on canvas.
Rule #3: Have fun!
Custom framing personalizes your home! Follow these simple tips and the next piece you hang will enhance your interior environment more than you could've imagined! The process of framing your artwork, family heirloom, concert poster, or sports jersey is your moment to create and display something that's truly one-of-a-kind! Have fun!
By the way, The Framer's Gallery is proud of our No Risk Guarantee! If you don't love the frame or color selection, bring it back within a reasonable time frame (perhaps within a month) and we'll replace it! If you prefer a frame that is more expensive than your initial choice, just pay the difference.

Did you know that art/photos can stick to the glass in a frame?
Anytime you frame something on paper (ex. a photograph) you should put matting in between the art and the glass. Matting acts as a space divider to protect art/photos from the glass surface.
How do we frame without matting?
SPACERS! Spacers are acid-free plastic strips placed in the frame to provide the needed air-space between art/photos and the glass! The best part of a Spacer is that it hides under the frame edge so it is hidden from view!

The "Like" button is the most popular way we tell others which clothing brands, vacation spots, retail stores and restaurants we enjoy! It wins by sheer volume. Once clicked, word flies through the social media universe and our friends and relatives are instantly exposed to news feed updates and ads screaming the news,
"Dave Likes Cleveland!"
Our audience is now so used to seeing our upward thumbs and baby blue likes that it has watered down the message. Cleveland has enjoyed and benefited from its positive press lately. We are in the midst of our 15 minutes of fame and we know it! All the while our real estate, construction and design professionals are hustling to make sure we're ready to welcome our largest crowd of guests with open arms!
But the "like" button doesn't tell our RNC friends or anyone else why we like Cleveland. They need to see, feel and be touched by our hometown pride first hand. Why do we love Cleveland? Why do you love Cleveland?
Is it our beautiful architecture, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, University Circle, Playhouse Square, our park systems, or one of the many others?
We don't have the manpower to explain the many reasons we like Cleveland to such a large audience. I propose we let artwork do the talking! Take a close look at your office, cafeteria, conference and banquet rooms. As you upgrade your surroundings, use art to display all of the things you love about our city! Share our architecture, parks and destination places through photographs, paintings and sculptures of our city! Do this and our RNC friends will feel the pride and energy we have about Cleveland every time they look around while they eat, meet and play in our great city!
